RIFT is here!

RIFT hits stores today! Huzzah!

I'm so excited for readers to meet new characters, share their adventures, and learn more about the Nightshade world.

Some highlights about the release:

1) You can read RIFT even if you haven't read the Nightshade series yet. This is a new story and while it's set in the same world as Nightshade it stands alone as a novel. For fans of the Nightshade trilogy, RIFT will answer many questions about how the Witches War began.

2) Special edition: Wal-Mart is offering an exclusive edition of RIFT that includes a short story "Restless Blood" about what Logan Bane is up to following the events of BLOODROSE.

3) Speaking of BLOODROSE - it's out in paperback today!

4) Launch party! Tonight at 6 p.m. I'll be signing RIFT at Books of Wonder.

5) Want signed books but can't make the party? Books of Wonder is offering specials on your orders of signed Nightshade books. Contact them and they'll get signed copies to you!

6) Web site updates: BLOODROSE and RIFT soundtracks are now posted on the Sound Scripts tab of my web site, www.andreacremer.com,  as well as the RISE playlist.

Thank you so much for continuing to share the joy of reading and writing with me! Hope to see you at a tour stop soon!

RIFT FAQs

On August 7 RIFT will be in stores! I can't wait for readers to dive into this new tale. In anticipation of the book's release here are some answers to frequent questions I've been getting about the book:

What is RIFT about?

RIFT reveals the origins of the Witches War - the conflict in which Calla and her pack are fighting in the Nightshade trilogy. RIFT follows the story of Ember Morrow, a sixteen-year-old girl who is drawn into the dangerous world of the secret order known as Conatus.

Will the characters from Nightshade appear in RIFT?

The Witches War began in 15th century in Europe, so unless Calla happens upon a time machine while running through the Colorado wilderness (spoiler: she doesn't) RIFT features a new cast of characters with one exception - and I don't want to give away who that is!

Do I have to read the Nightshade trilogy to understand or enjoy RIFT?

Not at all, though I hope you will check out the original Nightshade books! RIFT functions as a stand-alone novel that complements, but doesn't rely on the events of Nightshade. For those readers who are already fans of Nightshade, RIFT and RISE (January 2013) will answer many questions about the war, magic, and history of Calla's world. Check out this review from Mundie Moms to see why they think RIFT hits the mark!

Can I get my copy of RIFT (and the other Nightshade books) signed?

The book launch for RIFT will be at Books of Wonder and they're offering some awesome deals on pre-ordered signed books. Check out their site to learn how to get your own signed copies!!!

Kick Ass Women Take Over!

I'm loving all the excitement for The Hunger Games movie, not only because the books are fabulous, but also because they feature Katniss - a young woman who is courageous, independent, and not afraid to fight for her family (not to mention her life!)

I love reading about heroines who kick ass without apology, so I'm seriously thrilled about Heather Brewer's new series: The Legacy of Tril. The first book, SOULBOUND, which I was lucky enough to read, will be in stores July 5. Girl + katana + fabulous world building = amazing book!

You are lucky because I'm hosting a contest to win an advanced copy of SOULBOUND. Just leave a comment here (be sure to include your email address so I can contact the winner) to enter!

UPDATE: The winner is Kristen
theshybookworm(at)yahoo(dot)com! Congrats and thank you to everyone who entered!

I'm heading back to SoCal!

From March 16-18 I'll be at Wonder Con in Anaheim. The highlight of the weekend will be a panel I have the honor of moderating on Sunday afternoon from 3 - 4 p.m., which features:

Ann Aguirre, Enclave
Kami Garcia, Beautiful Creatures
Gretchen McNeil, Possess
Lissa Price, Starters
Ransom Riggs, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Veronica Rossi, Under the Never Sky

I'll have to work hard on my questions so I don't start fangirling over all these talented authors!

The panel takes place from 3 - 4 p.m., but I'll also be signing on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Mysterious Galaxy's booth (#900).

On the Road Now, and Again

Hello, from beautiful Long Beach, California! As a northern girl who has scoffed at television images of Californians donning sweaters when it got 'cold,' I must concede my error. It has been cool this weekend, and while it's not frigid like Minnesota I have indeed wanted a coat most days that I'm here. Even though it's not sunbathing temps, I've still taken great joy in walking on the beach at sunset.

It's the middle of my BLOODROSE tour and I want to send a huge thank you to everyone I've seen on the trip!

I have two stops left: Tuesday in St. Louis and Friday in New Orleans. I'd love to see you!

If you weren't able to come out for this tour, I'm delighted to announce the upcoming Breathless Reads tour. I'll be on the road with Marie Lu, Beth Revis, and Jessica Spotswood. Before I sign off I want to send a huge thank you to all of you for supporting BLOODROSE - I'm thrilled to share that you have put the Nightshade series on the NYT series list...at #5!!!! That means I'm raising my donation to Defenders of Wildlife to $5 per picture of BLOODROSE that I've received. And you've sent me loads of pictures so that means lots of money to protect wolves! You rock!! Thank you!!!

24

It's after midnight, which means we're in the last day before BLOODROSE hits stores. I'll admit that I have very mixed feelings about BLOODROSE going into the wild. On the one hand I'm thrilled that the final book of the Nightshade series will be in readers' hands. I can't wait until you see what happens and I hope you revel in the adventure as much as I did.

On the other hand I cried a lot (seriously, a lot) while writing this book. It's a journey coming to a close. And while there will be more stories set in the world of Nightshade, this particular story does have its ending. That's a bittersweet reality that I'm still coming to grips with.

In the last hours before BLOODROSE arrives, there are a couple of things I want to mention.

1) My post about endings. It's the best answer I can offer about everything that happens.

2) My donation to Defense of Wildlife. Your support is invaluable: Here are the details for what' I'm doing: Because I'm committed to advocating for wolves, I've decided to tie in BLOODROSE to this action: for every picture of a reader and her/his new copy of BLOODROSE that is sent to me via email, Facebook, or Twitter I will make a $2 donation to Defenders of Wildlife.

And to up the stakes: If in its first days of release BLOODROSE climbs into the top 10 of the Barnes and Noble (and remember that B&N has an exclusive edition with additional content!) and/or Amazon rankings I'll up that donation to $3 per picture.

And finally: Because BLOODROSE is book 3, Nightshade moves from the New York Times Chapter Book list to the notoriously-difficult-to break-into Series list. If BLOODROSE hits in the top 5 of the NYT series list I'll increase my donation to $5 per picture.

I encourage you to support wolves and spread the word about the risks of taking gray wolves off of the endangered species list. I hope you're as excited as I am for next Tuesday. Thank you so much for sharing Calla and the packs' journeys with me!
